Okay, so you have a bottle in mind that you want to put a custom label on; the only issue is that it already has a label from the manufacturer on it. Rather than sticking your label over the top of the existing label you want to ensure you completely remove the original label so that you can achieve a smooth and professional finish.
To avoid spending hours picking it off bit by bit with your fingernails take a look at our handy two minute tutorial and you’ll be all set!
Getting the job done right the first time is all about putting the work into your preparation. It may be tempting to skimp on this stage in your eagerness to get going, but it will just cost you time down the line as you spend hours trying to pick the label off in little pieces.
Find the following tools and a spare 10 minutes and you’ll be all set:
Fill your tray of choice with some warm water and lie your bottle right in there so that the label is fully submerged. If you want to leave the back label untouched then keep it bone dry by only using a shallow level of water. Simple right?
Now all you have to do is wait 10 minutes and then move onto step 3. Why not reward yourself with a quick coffee break to pass the time?
This is where your window scraper does the business. With a couple of quick scrapes you should have the bulk of that label off in a matter of seconds. Once you do that you can reach for your scourer to get rid of the rest of the residue. If you’re having trouble with the finishing touches then make sure to use your adhesive remover to make things sparkle — it’ll be well worth extra investment in time.
The mistake that many people make is rushing to stick their new label on the second the old one is off. The issue with this approach is that it means your new label won’t sit right and then you’ll have to get soaking all over again to get your bottle back to square one.
Be patient and give it a quick wipe down before leaving it to dry. It may not be the most fun thing to do but I’m sure you’ll find something to amuse yourself with whilst you wait!
